Why Women Should Consider Playing an Active Role in Crossing the Gender Gap

If you are more interested into the societal relations, you may have noted, that gender socialization tends to start at a very early age. One would need to dig deep and learn that girls tend to be socialized into toy cars while girls are socialized into Barbie preparing them to take care of their children when they grow up. One would need to note that some of these skills tend to be strictly for men while others tend to be strictly for women with socialization beginning at a very tender age. One would also note that the recreational priorities for both men and women tend to differ due to their differing socialization. During this socialization, girls tends to be taught to put on skirts as well as how to sit with the skirts while boys are socialized to put on trousers. The society may have tried to blur these boundaries but deep within they still exist.

One would have easy time empowering other women where he or she has taken time to empower herself. In the same line, the more women play an active role in taking what best suits them as opposed to what best suits the societal definitions, the more change towards an equal future will be realized.

.more women are still caught up in the socialized perceptions even as they struggle towards achieving equality due to the subconscious beliefs they have accumulated over time. It is also unfortunate that women also tend to be socialized to speak less when in the company of men. One would be amazed to hear that women have had no control over the children they give birth to and also do not decide on the number of children they should give birth to.
Any woman would need to discover more on how to improve gender equality but would need to start by changing his or her own perceptions. One would need to be sure that he or she does not preach things he or she does not practice. If you were ever told by your parents that playing football is wrong because football is meant for boys, you are a victim of socialization. As a girl, you may have been taught that skirts and dresses are the clothes for girls while boys are supposed to put on trousers. These are some of the avenues that were used to socialize you into believing that some tasks, behaviors, and roles are meant for women. You would need to remember that children do not understand these roles but tend to be socialized and as they grow with them, they come to accept to live with them.
