Components of the Front Matter.

You likely have seen some of a book’s front pages and passed over them wondering what their relevance is. You actually might be used top skipping such pages when reading any book. The fact though is that such front pages contain very important information about the book at hand.

Those pages at the beginning of a book are also known as the front matter. The front matter is commonly known as the preliminary matter or prelims, and is in many cases the shortest section of a book. The section might be as simple as a single title page or even include multiple title pages, a preface, and foreword among others. The content on the front matter greatly depends on the publication type.
Below are examples of front matter.

A Half Title.
This is a page with only the main publication title. On this, there is no inclusion of subtitles or the names of authors.

Title Page or Pages.
This is the work’s full title, and it includes subtitles if there are any. Others are the name of the author, and illustrator if applicable. Everything else is dictated by the book’s title and includes the address and name of publisher, ISBN, copyright information, edition notice, number of printings, warranties, safety notices, and disclaimers.

The erratum.
The erratum is a correction to a document. these are in many cases added after a publication is done. This is mostly found on the book’s back, normally known as the front matter.
